January 18, 1955 - Alcorn County Courthouse, Corinth MS

On January 18th, Elvis and friends rolled into Corinth for a show at the courthouse. An advertisement for the show in the Daily Corinthian bills Elvis as "that country music star".
The courthouse is located at 600 East Waldron Street and, with its greenspace, takes up an entire block. Comparing the circa 1950 postcard and modern street view shown at the top of this post, it would appear that little has changed on the square since Elvis played there, at least externally.
Elvis, Scotty, and Bill played in the assembly hall, which is in the center of the building and originally included balcony seating. Apparently, much of the courthouse has been unused in recent decades, and renovations have been underway since 2024, revealing remnants of the old balcony.
Music is still being played at the Alcorn County Courthouse through "Corinth Pickin' on the Square"; the facebook group is linked below.
