November 13, 1954 - Shreveport Municipal Auditorium, Shreveport LA

In the November 13th Shreveport Journal advertisement for the Louisiana Hayride, Elvis was mentioned among the list of performers, with Slim Whitman headlining. To my knowledge, this is the first Hayride ad that features Elvis by name. Slim Whitman was also the headliner at the famous July 30th Overton Park Shell concert where Elvis made his professional debut.

Slim Whitman, a three-octave tenor known for yodeling, was a successful musician for decades, though his fame would soon be surpassed by that of his young co-star, Elvis Presley. Whitman released his last album, Twilight on the Trail, in 2010 (at the age of 87!) and passed away in 2013. In the 1996 film adaptation of Mars Attacks, Whitman's song Indian Love Call is used as a weapon to make the Martians' heads explode.
